Rise Up as Eagles

Rise Up as Eagles

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

To Rise Up as Eagles

The verse, Isaiah 40:31, has become a source of strength, encouragement, and hope for many through the ages. We are to wait on the Lord and trust His word. By patiently trusting and keeping His word we are blessed and uplifted. He commands us to be patient; waiting for His perfect timing which gives us hope of what is to come. Waiting upon the Lord not only reinforces our faith it ensures our daily walk with Christ.

The Lord never goes back on His word and never tires. If we wait upon the Lord by faith, placing our trust in Him, He provides grace and renews our strength. By focusing on the Lord and doing His will, we are distancing ourselves from the world. We are strengthened by His almighty hand and can rise above the cares of this world.

No matter how weary we become or how difficult our circumstances, His grace is sufficient for us. His power is perfected in our weakness. It is the strength of the Lord that sustains us and carries us through the stresses of life. By placing our trust in Him, we are we able to draw from His bountiful supply and quench our thirst with His life-giving water. Our strength renewed, He will cause us to rise up as eagles above the battle strife.

A Source of Inspiration

The verse has inspired many men of God in their writings and sermons. Here are just some of them:

“Regarding Isaiah 40:31: “Here is one of the most beautiful promises given to those who put their trust in God. They shall forever renew their strength. They shall always rise above seeming defeat and soar up to lofty heights. God Himself will enable them to run their course, even where much younger and stronger men stumble and fall. Their secret is that “they wait upon the Lord.” Jehovah Himself is the inexhaustible fountain of their strength.” – from “The Prophet Isaiah, a Commentary” by Victor Buksbazen, The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, Inc.

“These, then, are the four ‘eagle ministries’ of our Lord: He saves us, matures us, strengthens us, and renews us. What an exciting thing it is to be a Christian! God does not want us to crawl like insects, or even to walk like mere men. He wants us to mount up with wings and live in the heights like the eagle! If we trust Him, yield to Him, wait upon Him, and obey Him, He will cause our spiritual wings to grow and will lift us to a higher plane.” – from “Living Like Eagles” by Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe, Moody Bible Institute

“Fretful spirits sit down and trouble themselves about the future. ‘Alas!’ say they, ‘we go from affliction to affliction.’ Very true, O thou of little faith, but then thou goest from strength to strength also. Thou shalt never find a bundle of affliction which has not bound up in the midst of it sufficient grace.” – from “Morning and Evening” devotionals by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
