So He Was Their Savior

So He Was Their Savior

So He Was Their Savior is a sermon teaching us that we need to return to God. He will come to redeem Israel and all those who believe in Him. He will also come for judgment of His enemies.

Isaiah was the first of the writing prophets and the first major prophet. The book of Isaiah, all 66 chapters, focuses on revival. The message is simple: you are God’s people, you have turned away from God, and you need to return to God. Chapter 63 is about the salvation offered by the Messiah. Messiah, the Savior, would not come until seven centuries after Isaiah. We look forward to His promised return.

Who is this who is coming? One that is of royalty and greatness and strength. The Savior is coming. He is coming to execute vengeance and the redemption of His people. No one else comes to help save His people, only He will save His people. He alone is their Savior. He will vanquish His enemies.

But it is not all about judgment and war. There is also lovingkindness. He is the Redeemer, the Savior. Isaiah recalls all that the Lord has done for the people in the past. We are to thank Him and praise Him for the multitude He has given to us. He had been the Savior in the past and He is still the Savior.

He is the one true God and there is no other God. He is also the one true Savior and there is no other Savior. In their afflictions, He was afflicted. God cares for us just as a father cares for his child. But, the people rebelled even though He was their Savior. Even so, He would save His people from the bondage of sin and into the Kingdom of God. Since the writing of Genesis, scripture speaks of the Savior who is to come, and in the New Testament, scripture speaks of the Savior who has come.

Sometimes we wonder if God is all-powerful, why does He let bad things happen in our lives? We don’t get everything we deserve. And if we did, maybe it wouldn’t be as good as we thought. We should be thankful that God doesn’t give us what we deserve, but He gives us what He knows we need and what is best for us. Often, we blame God for our troubles. We don’t see it is our own sin that has caused us to lose His blessing. God is always calling out for us to come back to Him. We need to come back to Him. Jesus is the cornerstone upon which we place our faith. For those who believe, He is precious. We are being called to come out of the darkness of sin and into His marvelous light and salvation. He asks that we place our faith and trust in Him.

The Lord is coming and He is going to redeem Israel and all who return to Him by faith. He is going to come and execute vengeance and judgment upon the enemies of God and the enemies of His people. And He is also going to come for salvation. And so, He was their Savior.

So He Was Their Savior sermon starts with verses from Isaiah 63:1-19:

1 WhoĀ isĀ this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? thisĀ that isĀ glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

2 WhereforeĀ art thouĀ red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?

3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peopleĀ there wasĀ none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

4 For the day of vengeanceĀ isĀ in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

5 And I looked, andĀ there wasĀ none to help; and I wondered thatĀ there wasĀ none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

6 And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD,Ā andĀ the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

8 For he said, Surely theyĀ areĀ my people, childrenĀ thatĀ will not lie: so he was their Saviour.

9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

10 But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy,Ā andĀ he fought against them.

11 Then he remembered the days of old, Moses,Ā andĀ his people,Ā saying, WhereĀ isĀ he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? whereĀ isĀ he that put his holy Spirit within him?

12 That ledĀ themĀ by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?

13 That led them through the deep, as an horse in the wilderness,Ā thatĀ they should not stumble?

14 As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD caused him to rest: so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

15 Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: whereĀ isĀ thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?

16 Doubtless thouĀ artĀ our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD,Ā artĀ our father, our redeemer; thy nameĀ isĀ from everlasting.

17 O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways,Ā andĀ hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

18 The people of thy holiness have possessedĀ itĀ but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.

19 We areĀ thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by thy name.

Isaiah 43:10-12:

10 YeĀ areĀ my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that IĀ amĀ he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

11 I,Ā evenĀ I,Ā amĀ the LORD; and beside meĀ there isĀ no saviour.

12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, whenĀ there was no strangeĀ god amongĀ you: therefore yeĀ areĀ my witnesses, saith the LORD, that IĀ amĀ God.

Isaiah 53:3-6:

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it wereĀ ourĀ faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But heĀ wasĀ wounded for our transgressions,Ā he wasĀ bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peaceĀ wasĀ upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

John 8:38-47, 57-59:

38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them,Ā If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

41 Ye do the deeds of your father.Ā Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father,Ā evenĀ God.

42 Jesus said unto them,Ā If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

43 Why do ye not understand my speech?Ā evenĀ because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Ye are ofĀ yourĀ father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 And because I tellĀ youĀ the truth, ye believe me not.

46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hearĀ themĀ not, because ye are not of God.

57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said unto them,Ā Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

I Peter 2:6-9:

6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

7 Unto you therefore which believeĀ he isĀ precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence,Ā even to themĀ which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

9 But yeĀ areĀ a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Revelation 19:1-17:

1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:

2 For true and righteousĀ areĀ his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

9 And he saith unto me, Write, BlessedĀ areĀ they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, SeeĀ thou do itĀ not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon himĀ was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

12 His eyesĀ wereĀ as a flame of fire, and on his headĀ wereĀ many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

13 And heĀ wasĀ clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

14 And the armiesĀ which wereĀ in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

16 And he hath onĀ hisĀ vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

Revelation 20:7-10:

7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whomĀ isĀ as the sand of the sea.

9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophetĀ are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
