The Resurrection of the Saints is a sermon teaching us that there is a resurrection and there is a Heaven. Believers are saints who will be in Heaven.

We understand that saints are those who have been saved through our Lord Jesus Christ. We are saved through faith. A person becomes a saint through grace. The center of the Christian faith, the center of hope for all Christians for all time is the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Many people saw the Lord after His resurrection.

But what about the resurrection of the saints? When and how are believers resurrected? There are many passages of scripture that cover that. The book of Job is the oldest book of the bible and could be the first book that was written. Job believed in the resurrection and that he had a redeemer, and that his redeemer was alive. Even when dead, Job knows he will be whole in full-body when he sees his the Redeemer.

God keeps his covenants to Abraham for Israel. Through Israel will all the nations of the Earth will be blessed. Through the generations, God preserved the Messianic line for the birth of Jesus. The Sadducees came to query Jesus, the same group who do not believe in the resurrection or Heaven. The Sadducees tried to entrap Jesus with their question about whose wife would a woman be if she married several men who have all died.

Jesus answers their question and in so doing tells us a great deal about the resurrection and Heaven. Jesus said that they surely deceived themselves without realizing it, because they did not know the scriptures and the power of God, in other words, they didn’t know what they were talking about. His answer was an affront to them since they prided themselves on knowing the scriptures. When we read the bible, believe the bible, don’t add anything else to it or take anything away.

Jesus tells them that there is a resurrection and there is Heaven, and that these are accepted facts. He said when you die and go to Heaven, you are as the angels in Heaven. Angels are created beings but do not reproduce. Those who were once husbands and wives while living will know each other but will not reproduce. Perhaps we can view those in Heaven as one big family with God as the father and everyone else as brothers and sisters.

Jesus explains to them that the premise of their question was to prove there was no resurrection. So Jesus taught them from scripture. He said that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are all still alive, though they had passed away centuries ago. And that God is still their God. We all know people who have passed, they are still living, just not in this time or space as we are. God is the God of the Living and is still the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who are alive in Heaven.

And when the crowd around them heard this, they were astonished and had never heard teaching like this before. The scribes and the Pharisees did not teach with such authority. The Sadducees had never been put in their place like this before. They argued among themselves, but now they came to argue with God Himself. He told them, whoever believed on Him would have everlasting life now, present tense.

When Jesus died on the cross there was an earthquake which opened the graves of many saints and after his resurrection bodies of the saints arose and went into the city and were seen by many. What happened to them? One theory is that when Jesus ascended into Heaven, so did the resurrected saints. The bible does not say what actually happened to them. When the centurion and Roman soldiers who were at the crucifixion saw what happened, they were afraid and said that surely this was the Son of God.

Are you going to be included in the resurrection of the saints? If you don’t know, you can know. Believe and put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Resurrection of the Saints sermon starts with verses from Matthew 22:23-33:

²³ The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

²⁴ Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

²⁵ Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:

²⁶ Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

²⁷ And last of all the woman died also.

²⁸ Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

³¹ But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

³² I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

³³ And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

Also verses in Ephesians 2:8-10:

⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

I Corinthians 15:1-4:

¹ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

² By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

³ For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

⁴ And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

I Thessalonians 4:13-18:

¹³ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

¹⁶ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

¹⁷ Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁸ Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

I Corinthians 15:1-58:

¹ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

²⁹ Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

³² If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.

³³ Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

³⁵ But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

³⁶ Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:

³⁷ And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:

³⁸ But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

³⁹ All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

⁴⁰ There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

⁴¹ There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in corruption:

⁴³ It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

⁴⁴ It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

⁴⁵ And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

⁴⁶ Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

⁴⁷ The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

⁴⁸ As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

⁵⁰ Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit interruption.

⁵¹ Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

⁵² In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

⁵⁵ O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

John 6:47:

⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Ecclesiastes 12:7:

⁷ Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Matthew 27;50-54:

⁵⁰ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

⁵² And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

⁵³ And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

⁵⁴ Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

John 14:19:

^{1 9}Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

John 11:23-27:

²³ Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

²⁴ Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

²⁵ Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

²⁶ And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

²⁷ She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
