Prosperity Amid Slavery

Joseph’s journey began in chains, sold into Egyptian servitude. Yet, divine favor elevated him. As overseer in Potiphar’s house, his efforts flourished because of heavenly blessing. “And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian” (Genesis 39:2). Even his master recognized this, seeing that “the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand” (Genesis 39:3). This rise shows how faithfulness invites supernatural success, benefiting not just the individual but those around them.

Resisting Temptation with Integrity

Faced with persistent advances from Potiphar’s wife, Joseph stood firm. He refused, declaring, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9). His choice to flee rather than yield highlights the power of moral resolve. “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22). This act of obedience preserved his character, even at great personal cost.

The Lord was with Joseph in Prison

False accusations led to imprisonment, but divine companionship persisted. “But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison” (Genesis 39:21). Joseph gained authority over fellow inmates, and his work prospered once more. This phase underscores that hardships do not signal abandonment; instead, they reveal deeper purposes. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Surrendering to Divine Will

Joseph’s story illustrates total yielding to higher plans. Echoing a later example of submission, “O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done” (Matthew 26:42), his life encourages believers to trust amid uncertainty. Adversity refines, positioning one for greater impact.
