You Hold the Power: Faith and Divine Purpose

You hold the power through the Holy Spirit to transform the world around you and leave an imprint that echoes into eternity. Many believers walk through life feeling like spectators of history, yet the scriptures reveal that those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are actually the primary catalysts for change on the earth. This power is not a result of human intellect or physical strength; it is the resident authority of the Living God dwelling within the heart of every believer.

Understanding Why You Hold the Power

The Bible is explicit about the source of a believer’s capability. In Ephesians 3:20, we are reminded that God is “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” This “power that worketh in us” is the same power that raised Christ from the dead. Unfortunately, this divine resource often remains underutilized. We frequently shrink back from challenges, forgetting that we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

When you recognize that you hold the power of the Gospel, your perspective shifts from “What can I do?” to “What can God do through me?” 2 Timothy 1:7 declares, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Fear is the primary thief of potential, but faith activates the spiritual authority required to solve complex problems and provide hope to the hopeless.

Giants of Faith Who Changed the World

History is replete with individuals who refused to let their faith remain a private sentiment. They understood that their belief in Christ gave them a mandate to improve the human condition.

  • William Wilberforce: Driven by his deep Christian convictions, Wilberforce spent decades fighting in the British Parliament to abolish the slave trade. He believed his faith required him to seek justice for the oppressed, and he eventually saw the abolition of slavery across the British Empire.
  • George Washington Carver: A man of profound prayer, Carver credited God for the scientific breakthroughs he achieved with the peanut and sweet potato. His agricultural innovations revolutionized the American South’s economy and helped poor farmers improve their livelihoods. He famously said he went to the “Great Creator” for his ideas.
  • Florence Nightingale: Known as the founder of modern nursing, Nightingale felt a “divine calling” from God to reduce human suffering. Her faith-fueled dedication to hygiene and patient care saved countless lives and professionalized medical treatment globally.

Activating Your Eternal Influence

The impact of a believer is not limited to social reform or scientific discovery; it has eternal implications. Every time you extend grace, share the Word, or act with integrity in your workplace, you are exercising spiritual authority. You are planting seeds that lead to the salvation of souls—the only work that truly lasts forever.

Jesus told His followers in John 14:12, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” This is a staggering promise. It suggests that the body of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, is the vehicle through which God continues His redemptive work on a global scale.

Do not allow your gifts to sit dormant. Whether you are called to the boardroom, the classroom, the laboratory, or the mission field, remember that your identity in Christ is your greatest asset. Step out in boldness, trust in the promises of the King, and realize that through Him, you truly hold the power to change the world.
